💬 Peter Basta has been guiding Vermont trout streams since he was fishing them as a kid in Dorset. An Orvis-Endorsed guide — and Orvis's 2002 Freshwater Guide of the Year — he runs a walk-and-wade service within a 45-minute drive of Manchester, on the Battenkill, Walloomsac, and Mettawee rivers, plus nearby New York water. He's as much a teacher as a guide: on-stream instruction in casting, reading water, and fly selection for beginners and veterans alike, with all equipment provided and catch-and-release for wild trout. Every late July he hosts trips to Labrador's Big River for Atlantic salmon and trophy sea-run brook trout.
